What‘s the worst that could happen?

When I start a new project without a real plan this one is always on my mind: “what’s the worst that can happen?” The answer is: nothing bad. You could lose time because you need to undo stuff. But there are no lives at risk because you just go ahead and try something out. No one is going to suffer because of it (ok, maybe you will, but no one else).

Design Process: from idea to pattern (the chaotic version)

Sometimes when I talk to Sarah and Katharina about their design process, I feel really bad… They tend to think things through and actually do the math on it beforehand. I on the other hand mostly just swing it…

When I start there are mostly pictures in my head (no math anywhere to be seen). So when I started on my corner to corner shrug I didn’t know what exactly it would be just that I wanted some kind of shrug and that I really wanted to try it out. I will take you along for the ride and tell you how I started getting to the pattern in the end.

WIP madness

In my mind having tons of WIPs – works in progress – is a sign of a creative mind. At least that is what I am telling myself.

Today I spent an hour frogging some of the WIPs I have been dragging around for years, finally giving up on them. I found things I haven’t seen in a year (last January I shifted through my WIPs for the last time). And I can honestly tell you: I have no idea if I even finished one of the WIPs I had lying around last January. My plan for this year: doing better.
