WIP madness

In my mind having tons of WIPs – works in progress – is a sign of a creative mind. At least that is what I am telling myself.

Today I spent an hour frogging some of the WIPs I have been dragging around for years, finally giving up on them. I found things I haven’t seen in a year (last January I shifted through my WIPs for the last time). And I can honestly tell you: I have no idea if I even finished one of the WIPs I had lying around last January. My plan for this year: doing better.

So where exactly is my problem in all this? My problem is called focus. I am so bad at just focusing on one thing at a time. As soon as I get an idea of something cool I want to try out, I want to do it. And yes, there is a beautiful Granny Square blanket in my WIP pile – since 2013 – just because I couldn’t focus on it anymore. It is nearly halfway done and I already use it now, but the plan is to get going with it as well.

So what I am trying right now is focusing on just one or two projects alongside. I will never be the kind of person that can just work on one thing for a very long time. Right now I am doing a shawl for Sarah and I really want to get it done, plus the pattern is lovely. The downside right now is that the rows are starting to take forever and that is where my breaking point often is reached. I am planning on getting it done this weekend, so fingers crossed, this is a project I will get done soon.

Then there is a scarf I just need to finish knitting, nothing fancy and easily done, this could easily be done in a few days and I would be down two more WIPs! But – and this is a big but – there is something on my needles that I wanted to make for a year: a sweater. I am very afraid of it and it will take me (who just feels comfortable crocheting not while knitting) time, patience, encouragement,… we will see if I can manage it.

I will try to get those done that will not take too much time first to actually have the feeling that I accomplished something and then always keep going with the bigger ones on the side so I at some point can say that I managed those as well.

Still there are too many ideas in my head and I will get sidetracked for sure, so hopefully there will be less than 10 next January… we will see, I will keep you posted.

How are you dealing with your WIPs? Is there a masterplan you work with? Or are you as overwhelm with them as I am most of the time?

Take care, Christina
